Hi, I’m Rachel. I’m building this site as a way to explore community, making, and place through locally produced cheese.
I’ll document my experiences as I taste every cheese made in Washington State. More than likely, I’ll find many others to try along the way.
My first real exposure to locally produced cheese was 25 years ago, when I worked in Marin County. I discovered Point Reyes Blue Cheese and Cowgirl Creamery through the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (and my boyfriend, now husband, who was working at Point Reyes National Seashore). I was impressed by the way farmers and scientists were working together, enthralled by the landscape, and wow, is that cheese delicious!
Now, as someone whose vacations often include cheese tourism, from The Cheeseboard in Berkeley, CA to Cheese Skool in France, I’m bringing intention to my exploration of local cheeses, the landscapes they come from, and the people who make them, by documenting what I learn.
I’d love to have you join me, especially if you’re a cheese lover who is interested in eating, serving, and trying cheeses made in the Pacific Northwest.
